Coffe Table Tidy

Lottie Newitt Home Blog

After Christmas it's way too easy to get stuck in a rut in the home, everything looking dull after all the Christmas Decor comes down and as a season we're kind of waiting in limbo until we can decorate the home again right?

Wrong!

A little start to my 'waiting for spring' series of blogs for the next few weeks...

I was chilling in my PJ's for most of the day yesterday! oops! whilst doing a little work (mostly so I didn't feel bad about wearing my PJ's for most of the day!) When I looked at our coffee table and thought

'Time to tidy & pretty this up'

It looks so messy and dull, I bought the coffee table ages ago to renovate it but have still not had any time to even look at how I'm going to do it let alone actually completing it!
So with this in mind there are marks all over the middle which make the mess look even worse.

I really needed to do something to tidy the mess, cover up the worst of the marks and make it look pretty as well as creating a space to keep the spare coasters & TV controllers tidy but accessible

So I found out my chocolate brown, rattan style deep tray which is nice and big, ideal to cover most of the horrible marks on the top of the coffee table. I placed this in the centre, near the back of the table.

I had some roses left over from a bouquet I was given, still looking pretty that I cut down to make a little shorter, placing them cosily into a heavy glass hurricane type vase. The pink just brightens up the living room instantly. We have light grey mixed with deep blue-grey walls so the pink really pops against this colour, which I love! So I placed this slightly left to the centre of the tray as the main display piece.

I then found a beautiful jar candle out which is like that classic 'Tiffany Blue' in scents of fresh, ocean vibes. Perfect for seeing out the last few weeks of winter, positioning to the right of the roses.

I love to put things in clusters of 3 or 5, I think this works better on the eye (just my thoughts) so I added in a recycled, cute shaped jam jar & placed a tealight candle into it. This then matched up the other two items on the tray creating my happy group of three.

Gathering up the coasters, I popped this together neatly in a small stack in the top right corner of the tray. This keeps them stacked & tidy as well as out the way of the main display on the tray.

Then lastly the controllers fit in the bottom right corner nicely, keeping them together, tidy and still easy to access when needed... No doubt they will always be put anywhere but the tray but at least I've started off well!

This is a very simple idea but has certainly made a huge difference to our living room & coffee table top! Quick to do, cheap to create and gives us something nice to look at that can help keep us all tidy(er!)

Hope this is a little helpful to you, I know it's just a quick DIY but still shows how easy it can be to pull something decorative and useful together quickly for the home.

Have a great week lovelies :)
